Blind in the Dark

Being blind in a dark room

holds no meaning,

except to equalize the odds

of falling over something

that you never knew was there.

Such is taking the plunge into new romance.

We are all wandering blind

when we lead with our hearts,

not our eyes.

Love is like running towards a cliff in the fog.

Without warning, we madly fall.

Unavoidable.

Unrecoverable.

And always fatal

to the person that we were before.

There is no net to catch us,

no wings to lift us

no tether to return us

to where we were before.

There is only an unremitting free fall

and an unequivocal ending

that leaves us all in darkness.
