Mendenhall is at it Again
“It was only meant to encourage anyone reading it to think.” – Rashard Mendenhall.
No Mr. Mendenhall, the only one who needs to think is YOU! Here are the things that were posted on Mendenhall’s Twitter feed about the death of Usama bin Laden:
“What kind of person celebrates death? It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side . . .”
“I believe in God. I believe we’re ALL his children. And I believe HE is the ONE and ONLY judge.”
“Those who judge others, will also be judged themselves.”
“For those of you who said you want to see Bin Laden burn in hell and piss on his ashes, I ask how would God feel about your heart?”
“There is not an ignorant bone in my body. I just encourage you to #think”
“We’ll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style.”
Well, after the shit-storm that rightfully followed, Mendenhall posted a “clarification” of his statements. What should have followed was an apology. I keep hearing how he is a young man expressing his first amendment rights. This is true; it’s something that he is allowed to do. On the other hand, that does not mean that we as the recipients of those words have to agree nor stay silent. Telling me to not complain or be offended is trampling on MY first amendment rights. (Jason Whitlock of FoxSports.com should be made aware of this.)
During his “clarification,” Mendenhall quoted a Bible passage and tends to try and portray himself as a spiritual Christian. Well, that would be believable had he not went on a tirade degrading women days before. Those posts have been conveniently been removed, but Ginny over at That’s Church has the images, which I have included here:
Class act, that guy. Yeah, he’s an intelligent, spiritual guy who would serve as a fine role model for the youth of America. [/sarcasm]
In the end, there are two quotes rolling around in my head dealing with people like Mendenhall. The first is: “The right to be heard doesn’t necessarily guarantee the right to be taken seriously.” – Hubert Humphrey.
The second is: “In NFL parlance, you can’t teach speed. In Mendenhall’s case, you can’t fix stupid.” – Me
“Those who judge others, will also be judged themselves.” – Rashard Mendenhall. Well buddy, you were judgmental of women in general and the American nation as a whole… so consider yourself judged… and found wanting.
